The Tower Tarot Card Meaning

The Destroyer
Upheaval • Revelation • Collapse

Significant change and disruption to some key aspect of your life such as your home or a relationship. This is, undoubtedly, an upsetting experience but know that there is opportunity to build a new, improved reality. With time you are likely to see this as a blessing in disguise.

There are a number of cards in Tarot that depict change, because change is one of the most fundamental and consistent parts of life. It is something that everyone will face and cannot be avoided. It could be the exposure of a situation where the Subject isn’t being no to them self, or others, and they will be seen as they truly are rather than the persona they adopt for the outside world.

The Subject might want to think about telling the truth themselves, rather than being exposed by circumstances out of their control. The Tower will inevitably crumble and only the Subject can limit the resultant damage. However, it is often a blessing in disguise, because what emerges from the wreck is better for them. They can finally be as they really are and there is nothing better than getting validation and acceptance for who and what you truly are, rather than trying to be something that other people want.

Love & Relationships

Something false can no longer hold its shape. Hidden truths, emotional avoidance or fragile foundations crack open under pressure, exposing what was always struggling beneath the surface. Even painful honesty creates more freedom than illusion ever could.

Material Life

What once seemed solid reveals hidden weakness suddenly and without ceremony. Financial instability, disrupted plans or collapsing structures force truth into the open, however uncomfortable that truth becomes initially. False security rarely survives the storm meant to expose it.

Notes from the Artist

The Tower is falling apart having been struck by lightning, and flames can be seen coming from inside the structure. The element of fire refers to total and utter transformation because almost nothing will look or feel the same once it has been ravaged by the fire; this image is all about significant, irreversible change. Even devastation.

The destruction of The Tower by an unexpected, external force represents the possibility that something has come crashing down for the subject and it has had a major impact on them. It is often surprising and very likely they will have little control over the outcome of the situation.
