Seven of Swords tarot card from the Simply Tarot deck

Seven of Swords Tarot Card Meaning

The Mischief Maker
Deception • Strategy • Secrecy

The Seven of Swords warns that there could be manipulative or dishonest behaviour at play. Whilst this is often to protect ourselves or others; at times it isn’t justifiable. Analyse the motives of the people involved, including you, to know which is applicable right now.

The Subject should be mindful of the information they are sharing and the people they are associating with.

The Subject, or someone around them, may be required to adopt underhand methods to achieve something they want and the Subject is in an uncomfortable situation where behaviours and actions may not be what they seem. Someone is misleading someone else even if the motivation behind it is sound. This needs to be handled sensitively and the Subject cannot simply demand or apply pressure to get to the bottom of what’s really going on.

It may be that it is the Subject who, for what seems to be very good reasons, is the one who is not being honest, or trying to manipulate the situation, and when the truth finally comes out they will need to consider whether the end justifies the means.

Depending on the nature of the question posed by the Subject, this card could be a warning that they may be being manipulated by someone else.

Love & Relationships

Something remains concealed beneath the surface of this connection. Avoidance, secrecy or emotional self-protection creates distance even where affection still exists. Trust weakens quietly when honesty becomes something people negotiate rather than offer freely.

Material Life

Instability grows where honesty has already begun slipping away. Secrecy, avoidance or hidden agendas weaken trust within both practical and emotional structures, leaving people constantly bracing for what remains unsaid. Survival strategies formed in difficult times do not always create healthy futures.

Notes from the Artist

Whilst there is uniformity to some extent in this image of seven Swords, there are different lengths to some of the blades. Despite the differences in the blades, the edges and points are still as sharp. The clouds are darkening and swirling with a heavy energy; things are afoot. All is not obvious at first glance, therefore dishonesty or deceit is likely to be somewhere near.
