Four of Pentacles tarot card from the Simply Tarot deck

Four of Pentacles Tarot Card Meaning

The Risk Averse
Security • Control • Possession

You fear losing your financial security and stability and avoid taking material risks. It is right to be cautious with money and assess risk. Be open to opportunity though; a chance to change your fortune could pass you by.

The Subject may be feeling a little insecure at the moment, fearing change or upheaval in their life. They may feel proud and happy with what they have achieved up to now and are desperately clinging on to it, unprepared to take a risk or do anything out of the norm. They are right to feel happy and proud of what they have achieved, but it is not always good to just hold on to what they've got, the Subject could be missing out on something great if they can just open up a little.

Whilst it is right to protect what we have built up, and maintain levels of security that make us happy and confident in life, by focusing solely on what we already have, we could be leaving no room for anything new to come into our lives, which is not healthy. The Subject will be avoiding risks and opportunities and, as such, could overlook the chance to attain something that is ultimately better than what they already have.

Love & Relationships

Fear of loss tightens its grip around the heart here. Emotional control, guardedness or possessiveness may be creating distance beneath the appearance of stability. Love becomes difficult to sustain when vulnerability feels more dangerous than loneliness.

Material Life

Fear of losing stability tightens around this card heavily. Money, possessions or control may be held so tightly that security slowly hardens into isolation or scarcity-minded living. Some people survive difficult years only to discover they no longer know how to loosen their grip once safety finally arrives.

Notes from the Artist

A perfectly formed vine with not only four Pentacles, but the promise of more starting to bud. There are new roots trying to ground themselves which could develop further vines. The nurturer must decide whether the vine can support more growth and produce, or to curtail the growth and protect it as it is.
